Steps to Take to Determine Your Ideal Garden Flooring

The use of the term ‘flooring’ to describe the base for outdoor living spaces has risen in popularity with the concept of creating ‘outdoor rooms’.  One of the most important considerations of your garden design is the flooring that you use to define your outdoor areas.

Hazel-rightWe're often called in to help clients soften the areas where their home builder has simply poured plain concrete for patios, stairs and walkways and left them with outdoor areas that are uninviting and out of character with the house, property and the client's personal style.  Unless your vision for your garden is contemporary with austere elements, you'll want to consider other types of garden flooring such as: ornamental gravel, tile, colored or stamped concrete, stone, brick, recycled materials plus more.

If you want your garden landscape design to reflect your style and needs, take some time to wander around your property to think about your outdoor living spaces so that you'll be able to make the best choices for their flooring.  Eventually, you'll want to make sketches of your thoughts.  For now, simply go outside and ponder these basic questions:

What is your personal garden style?

This question is the basis for most garden design decisions so it is important that you have a firm understanding of it.  Reflect on the outdoor spaces that you have loved in the past.  What were your favorite childhood outdoor play areas?  Visualization is the truest and most efficient way to know what your spirit's needs are.  Think about the atmospher you want to create - asual, formal or a mixture of both.  If you prefer a more tangible way to discover your style, look at photos
